Sketch-a-Day

Jawa + Jedi = Jadi by jean-francois dubeau

This one merits a bit of explanation. My brother, who put in the request for this on Facebook, has been borderline obsessed with a Jawa who is also a Jedi, hence forming a Jadi. I used inks on this one because of the high contrast the eyes make which would have sucked to photograph from pencils.

I'm not gonna lie; not my best work. When I get bored I might revisit that one. Especially since it'd probably delight my brother if I did.

If you were to go to almost any web comic and press the 'first' button, you would notice a dramatic change in art quality from what you had in front of you when you logged into the page and what you see before you now. It's said that to become an expert in anything you should put in roughly 10 000 hours and few things demonstrate this as dramatically as a web comic that's been going for a few years. Goats.com is a particularly good example of that. If you dig into the archive you'll find this. Practice doesn't necessarily make perfect but it sure helps along the way.

So it's no surprise that I've been toying with the idea of doing a web comic of my own for a few years now. Unfortunately, a web comic is a gargantuan investment of time and effort. That doesn't mean I don't want to get the regular practice in.

Hence, I figured I might as well force myself to draw a little each day and if I'm going to be going through the effort then there's nothing to lose with sharing my efforts. This is something I've been planning on doing from the get-go and it's my pleasure to introduce to you my first feature: Sketch-a-day

Essentially, each day, I'll be posting a sketch I've made. I'll try to put between ten minutes to half an hour on each sketch so they're worth your time but don't become too heavy a burden. I'll be pushing notifications for when the sketch is up on both Facebook and Twitter (I encourage you to follow my Twitter feed @jfdubeau).
